History and Achievements
Stan Smyle broke into the NHL as a rookie in 1978 playing with Thomas Gradin and Curt Fraser. The Steamers
bone jarring hits earn him instant respect in the league and we went on the captain the Canucks until his retirement
in 1991. Smyl helped to the Canucks to thier magical playoff run in 1982 where they lost to Mike Bossy and the
New York Islanders. He also helped to harness the extreme talent of Trevor Linden and mentor him into being one Mr Canuck
and a successor to Stan.
